What do you enjoy most about your role in security? I think first and foremost, I never thought throughout my Interior Design education that I would work for a security consulting firm. It honestly never crossed my mind. It really just goes to show you never know what the future holds, and the same is true in security. Part of my role in security is to stay a step ahead of the rest, because you don’t know what the future will entail. Knowing that I am contributing to making secure environments functional and safer for others is what I enjoy most.

What is your greatest security concern? A concern would have to be “the unknown” that is around every corner. In hindsight, just because an incident hasn’t happened to you or on the premises of your company or place of business, does not mean you have a safe environment. Being responsible for protecting people and property can be intimidating. The important thing is to stay on top of the latest issues, strategies, and technology and as key points in preventing emerging threats and enhancing security for your organization. An attacker’s first step is through gathered information. This step can be delayed through a security layers, but real-world attacks include elements of all strategies. Many times, threats can be or could have been avoided through the act of reporting suspicious activity. It is always better to report it and be wrong, then to have never acted on that instinct.

Plan. Protect. Prosper.
