Security Program Check-up Should Be Held Annually

Protus3 Security Master Planning, Security Program Development

security program checkupWhen was the last time that your security program had a check-up?

We all know that we should visit our physician for an annual check-up or physical. This is the time to discuss with your doctor any issues or symptoms you may be having. Your doctor will examine you to make sure everything checks out ok.

The same should hold true for your security program. Depending on the size of your organization and associated security program, it is highly recommended that your security program has, at the very least, an annual check-up. It is important to sit down and review your program with your key security staff on a regular basis. This would be a time to discuss and address any issues or concerns. It is also important to check out key components of your program and verify that everything is up to date.

What should you include in this annual checkup? Review all policies and procedures (including employee compliance), training, electronic security coverage, alarm notifications, emergency response times, just to name a few. Then you can update or correct any issues as needed.

Just as periodic physicals are important to maintain a healthy life, so are annual reviews to ensure a well-designed, maintained and implemented security program.
