Gov. Bev Perdue, Secretary Al Delia, leadership from the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services and other state officials attended a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the opening of the new facility that will house the State Laboratory of Public Health and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The $52 million facility is a state of the art setting that meets national standards for bioterrorism and hazardous chemical response.
The new 220,000 square foot facility is located near the intersection of Edwards Mill Road and Wade Avenue near the North Carolina National Guard Headquarters and State Emergency Operations Center.
O’Brien/Atkins is the architect of record for the project. Laboratory design and planning services are provided by HDR/CUH2A. As part of the design team, Risk Management Associates was engaged to design a site-wide integrated set of electronic security systems for the project.
