On February 9, 2011, House Bill 63 was introduced in the North Carolina General Assembly. If enacted, this bill would prohibit private employers from enacting or enforcing any security policy that prevents employees from bringing firearms to their place of work. The bill further provides that employers could be liable to employees who are injured or killed because such policies prevented them from defending themselves against violent attack.

Although RMA has not yet taken a position on the bill, it does recognize that such a law would have far-reaching effects on current workplace security practice and procedure. RMA encourages all employers to review this bill in light of their current security policies and take appropriate action.
