RMA developed, updated, and delivered training programs to security and receiving personnel at the Goddard Space Flight Center.
In order to maintain a level of protection from external threat, security procedures must assure that access to the facility is controlled and documented, and items entering the site are screened and identified. Weapons and explosives can be carried into a secure facility by personnel or delivered by unknowing third parties as mail, package deliveries, or incoming shipments of materials and supplies.
To protect against this type of threat, the Goddard Space Flight Center uses visual and x-ray examination of all incoming mail and packages to detect weapons, explosive devices and other potentially dangerous items. Training sessions for security and receiving personnel were conducted by RMA in 2001 and 2008. The facility expressed a current need to provide additional, updated training to the new and existing personnel responsible for these duties.
NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center is home to the nation’s largest organization of combined scientists, engineers and technologists that build spacecraft, instruments and new technology to study the Earth, the sun, our solar system, and the universe. The center is a major U.S. laboratory for developing and operating unmanned scientific spacecraft. The center manages many of NASA’s Earth observation, astronomy, and space physics missions. The center includes several other facilities: the Wallops Flight Facility at Wallops Is., Va.; The Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York City; and the Independent Verification and Validation Facility in West Virginia.
