Protus3 was honored to sponsor the 2017 NCICU Ethics Bowl on February 17-18, 2017. The theme of this year’s program was Ethics in Law. Twenty-two debate teams from private colleges and universities across the state competed over the two-day event.

Christine and Rick had the opportunity to act as judges in seven of the matches including the semi-final round. Students debated about relevant dilemmas including cyber-bullying, which bathroom a student should be required to use, concealed weapons in college classrooms, and doing business in countries that repress the human rights of their citizens. The location of the event could not have supported the theme better, as the Ethics Bowl was held at the Legislative Complex in Raleigh. Each of the team events was overseen by a moderator and from three to five judges.

One of the highlights of the event was a dinner at the NC Museum of History where students, coaches, moderators, judges, NCICU leaders, and guests had the opportunity to network and build relationships. North Carolina Supreme Court justice Samuel James “Jimmy” Ervin IV was the keynote speaker for the event. All teams performed exceptionally well, and Salem College gained victory in the final round against Meredith College.
