What do you enjoy most about your role in security?
I have served as an expert witness in negligent security lawsuits since 1981. In trying to help juries understand the type of security experiences I have had I often use the following example. “I have conducted security analysis on a huge variety of organizations from public to private from high-tech to the opposite. In conducting an evaluation of Johnson Space Center I got to walk out on the floor of the very same Mission Control that I had seen on television so many times. At the other end of the spectrum I have been on the killing floor of a pork processing plant where 6000 hogs a day are slaughtered, dressed, and prepared by hand.” All of the thousands of security evaluations that I have done have contributed in some way to how I feel about security and the effectiveness, or lack thereof, of particular security programs. We often have the rare privilege of working in direct partnership with our clients because true security is more than gadgets; true security must be people-centered. I love making a difference in the lives of clients, returning to their sites to see that they are safer because of the implementation of our recommendations.
